Hold Deck
The forward shell room, holding 194 projectiles, was built as an iron tank which could be flooded if necessary. Shells were stored on wooden racks and transported to the hatch by means of an overhead rail fitted with a travelling purchase. The shells were then raised up to the Shield Deck by means of a hand winch fitted with a chain purchase. The first shells transported to the Shield Deck were from the "ready" rack, immediately under the hatch; they were stored heads up, with slings on ready for hoisting. Mouseover two men as well.
