The Commissioner

The Commissioner, a Melbourne Harbour Trust launch, was fitted with two sets of torpedo dropping gear and a three pounder Whitworth gun. Commissioner operated as a torpedo boat and was referred to as Commissioner.

Iron steam launch for the Melbourne Harbour Trust.

Launched; Saturday, the 17th. of August, 1878, by Miss Lorimer, at Messers Robinson Brothers & Co., Southbank below Falls Bridge, Melbourne, Victoria. Price; £1,825.

Lpp = 62" 6", Be = 11' 8",
Depth of hull (not draft) = 5' 6".
Boiler = Multitube coal fired, Working Pressure = 75 psi, Maximum Pressure = 150 psi. [Andrew suspects that this was a fire tube locomotive boiler.]
Engine = two cylinder, Diameter = 10", Stroke = 12", Power = 24 h.p. nominal, Shaft speed = 180 rpm,
Speed = 10 knots.
Propeller = Diameter = 4' 6", Pitch = 7' 6".
